Tough question, given Zappa's almost near-refusal to let a groove happen for
more than a minute without interrupting it with some polyrhythmic breakdown.
That said, the Discreet albums from the early 70s would probably be your
best bet: check out APOSTROPHE, OVERNIGHT SENSATION and ONE SIZE FITS ALL.
Zappa's bands had by far the best grooves when George Duke played with them.
Ryko (I think) originally issued the first two on the same CD, but
subsequently rereissued them as individual copies. Just be warned that the
lyrics on these two albums tend toward the scatalogical and misogynistic and
if you're offended by such things, stay clear.
