Actually, there are a few American mods (or ex-mods in my case) around.
The U.S. has a pretty thriving scene and most of the cities with strong AJ
scenes have always had strong mod scenes. I love the Small Faces too!
Hi, everybody
I have only recently joined the AJ mail-list, but I have been an Acid
Jazz fan for a number of years now.
I have noticed that one of the most frequently asked questions is what
is
Acid Jazz.I agree that this is a difficult question to answer exactly,
but one way to look at it is to discover where its roots REALLY lie.
Acid Jazz in Britain and Europe grew out of the Mod movement and Scooter
Boys. Those of you residing in America probably dont know too much about
this.It was the Mods love for American imported Soul, funk and Modern
jazz that paved the way for a lot of the AJ we like today.
Also their the way they dressed, and general outlook on life influenced
heavily the whole Acid Jazz scene. The Acid Jazz label itself was started
by Eddie Piller a recognised Mod DJ from the last big Mod revival.
Anyway getting back to the point of this letter, the group who
influenced most of this were the Small Faces. Four lads for the East End
of London
redisigned the whole Mod culture and whose music and outlook influenced
and quite posssibly started the whole Acid Jazz scene in the late
eighties.
So if some of you out their are looking for the sound that kicked it all
off, check out the Small Faces, and be amazed at the sound that
influenced us all either directly or indirectly.
