Just got home from the station where I did another show, this time live.
When I arrived at the station there was something waiting for me. The
promo copy from "Shelter", the new release from The Brand New Heavies. I
must confess I do love this guys so I run into a studio and I listen to
it before going on air. I must admite I was really disappointed. Not
that record is that bad, by all means, but it lacks something. It's one
of those records you hear from head to toe and when you reach the end
there's really no highlight to talk about. There's not such thing as a
tune that forces you to push the repeat button and hear it again and
again. I miss those great tunes like "Got To Give", "Dream Come
True",... you know what I'm talking about.
Then there's Siedah Garrett... Her participation is not limited to the
vocal stuff. She also co-wrote 7 out of 12 tunes. I'm probably being
unfair but I thing she didn't bring nothing good to the band. Okay, she
has a nice voice but... My current choice from this album is track #10,
a nice and well played intrumental.
I do hope the remixes that will surely be out soon sound better. The BNH
deserve and can deliver more.
For those of you interested here's the complete track listing of the
promo version (I don't know if the final release will have any extra
