man, this album is SO DAMN GOOD!!! I can't even believe it. I bought it
about three weeks back (when they played here in phoenix) and have been
listening to it nonstop. These boys have mad styles. A lot of people
talk about their simultaneous rapping, which is amazing, but there's so
much more to them and I think the rest gets overlooked. Lateef and Lyrics
Born (he changed his name) know how to rap, know how to rap, know how to
rap. They've got great lyrics, catchy melodies, creative transitions,
hints of old school roots, and all in all simply amazing skills. And
besides all that, these boys know how to freestyle!!! Two songs on here
are all improv and the FLOW nicely. this album is a must have.
As for Shadow and Chief Xcel, they indeed are on here, but the music is
definitely in the backround. THe music complements the vocals perfectly,
and doesn't need to be in the spotlight at all. I think the first song is
the only one on the whole album that you might be able to say, yeah,
that's DJ Shadow all right. It's not his album, and he doesn't shine, and
you don't even care because Latyrx are so damn good.
did I mention I like this album? go buy it.
scott!
