I've seen them perform two or three times over the years. They usually
get thrown into the jazz fusion category but they can be pretty funky.
Bela does some amazing things with a banjo. That's right, a banjo.
Because of this instrument, you might find some country or southern (US)
type influences in the sound but they go way beyond that. Everytime I've
seen them, they had a percussionist who plays a drum machine that's
shaped more-or-less like a guitar and carried the same way. I'm sure the
music experts can describe this better than I. This guy can do some
amazing things with beats, though. The group has at least a few CDs out
so you might want to give them a listen but their live show is better
than the canned stuff.
