Hey why should all you bastards have the fub putting together top 5?

1. Illegal Jungle vol.2
A 95 compilation of UK jungle which really rocks my inner city apartment.
Most og it is the more reggae influenced jungle with a starnge version of
Riperton's 'Loving You'

2. Moving Shadow compilation tape from Mixmag magazine
Some whicked drum and bass. The tape sits in the car and has become my
driving music along with Scarface, Ronny Jordan and Qool Marv vol. 6,7 &
9.

3. Volume one by Da Steppa Project
An album which I can only call a sleeper. Absolutely trashed it when I
first bought it but now cannot get enough. Subtle 70's jazz funk stylings
ala CTI / Fantasy Records over mellow jazz influenced hip hop beat, by I G
Culture formerly of Dodge City Posse

4. Bosh by the Quiet Boys
This is one of my all time ajazz faves. Not jazz, not funk, not hip. Just
smooth and soulful, jazzy, funky music. An album of consistent hi quality
ajazz. They don't make them like this anymore or do they?

5. Light in Darkness (???) by by Ronny Jordan
Bought the damn thing for $2 on cassette to listen to in the car and don't
regret it. Having seen him a couple of times in 95 when he toured Oz, I
found his live shows infintely better than his records, which I thought
were too buffed and polished. Whilst this is highly produced, the musical
arrangements and his guitar playing is infinitely more interesting thn on
the debut album. I was almost tempted to put on the white socks and the
black loafers

Honourable mention go to the first Scarface album whose title eludes me,
the D-Influence mix of 'Another Day' by Kathy Sledge, the Uk mixes of 'Oh
My God' by Tribe Called Quest and KRS 1's 'Sound of Da Police' and the
Trouble Funk Greatest Hits compilation on Sequel Records.

Classic mix tapes - Qool Marv 6 & 9. Qool Marv's tapes are constantly
played in the car when cruising with my partner. She llluurrrvvvveeesss
QoolMarv's smooth mix of hip hop, acid jazz and nu soul. Highly
recommended. I hope to review the series in july, once my postgrad studies
are completed.

cheers
