Well, Im going to move in a new direction on this thread because I could
care less what can and cant be discussed. I do have some questions
regarding Mr. Masters' comments. First of all is there a different
"look" for jungle headz than there are for acidjazzies or hip hoppas?
secondly, I think the reason that acid jazz is the most diverse genre of
music out there is because the expression is losing all meaning. On this
list alone we talk about so many different forms of music and a lot of it
I would NOT call acid jazz. but thats fine with me, because thats the
music Im interested in (e.g. DJ Shadow, various drum and bass). I also
find it a little interesting that I have a good friend who listens to all
of the same music discussed on this list (e.g. Mo Wax stuff, jungle,
groove collective, jamiroquai) doesn't think any of those acts can
qualify as one form of music--acid jazz. But see, thats great! I love
this stuff and this listserv because genres are finally blurring and
music is beginning to stand on its own. We've sub-categorized so damn
much that all we can say now is its music. Go listen to it if you want
to know what it sounds like. Anyways, Im going off on a big tangent here,
but I guess I'll place my vote now.
Talk about whatever you want. However I must say that dressin like "acid
jazz" ois idiotic. Not that it cant be done, but why identify yourself
like that? I look like my record collection, wow, now what else do I
offer? seems little.
scott!
