Anyone catch the rebroadcast of Sweetback's performance on Planet Groo=
ve=20
(BET) last week. I caught the tail end of this the first time it was=20
broadcast and have been waiting and hoping they would rerun it. Final=
ly,=20
my appetite for the live Sweetback groove has been sated. They played=
=20
about 6 songs from their self-titled debut. They did "You Will Rise"=20=
and=20
"Gaze" w/Amel Larrieux; "Hope She'll Be Happier" and "Softly, Softly"=20
w/Leroy Osbourne; and "Au Natural" w/Bahamadia. There's just somethin=
g=20
about Stuart Matthewman's haunting sax and guitar licks that really do=
es=20
it for me. I'm glad to see the group finally getting the upfront expo=
sure=20
that they deserve.
=20
They also had a good smattering of Sade videos in between Sweetback's=20
performances and commercials. A couple of the videos were live=20
performances; "Cherish the Day" and "Paradise". Sweetback and Sade=20
definitely have a smooth live groove thang. Is it just me that is=20
wondering why they never released an audio version of the live video=20
from a few years back? Since we haven't heard anything new from the=20
lady recently, I would surely settle for some older live recordings. =20
Wouldn't that be the next logical release after a greatest hits? =20
=20
Lastly, Andrew Hale mentioned that he had been working with a=20
couple of Japanese? guys on an upcoming project. He mentioned the=20
name of the group as Watermelon. I believe this episode of Planet=20
Groove was recorded back in February/March; anybody hear anything=20
further about this project?

Later,
