The Juke Joint cd is great, and they kick in concert, as well one might
imagine from the cd; lots of heavy late-60s "Lost Grooves" kind of
jazz-soul-funk influence with a kind of hip-hop vocal style. The lyrics are
a little on the tiresomely snide at times, and the groove might be a little
monotonous, but the playing is funky and brings home the bacon.

As an aside, it's curious that Toronto's two most notable AJ acts, Juke
Joint and One Step Beyond, are both HEAVY-LY inflected by the late 60s
blues-funk jazz groove: all live instruments and a live feel to the jive--a
very retro "school" we've got going here. They're both excellent at it too,
especially in concert. If you're into funky jazz these bands both do a
fantastic 90s take on it (One Step in a more seventies fusion way and Juke
Joint in a more sixties blues way).

peace,
