heya all,

There's a number of things that have popped up on this list over the past
week that I've been wondering about, so I'm gonna pull from a couple
different people's posts...

>oh yeah if anyone knows the Nobukauzu Takemura lp "Childs View" there are
>a couple of truly wonderful tracks feat. "The Little Singers of Tokyo",

This is (at least) the second mention of this woman's album <-- what label
is it on? Domestic in North America? Having heard only one gorgeous piece
by her (on the "Island Outpost" comp thru Quango/Island), I've gotta track
this down. Oh, Phillip, for somewhat related vocals... at least really
interesting one's, check out a track called "Ay Ay Ay" by Nora Dean & Duke
Reid, found on the new-ish IRMA comp (gotta love their comps!) called
"Globe@t". The album is sub-titled "Buzzing Rhythms & (outer) World
Repercussions", just to give you a take on their international flavour.
This song in particular is a stand-out. Very catch, kinda whimsical, Latin
styled vocals over old school rockers/ska sounding music. Beautiful. A
number of other really great trakcs on here too (includes folks like
Spaceways; Maf Drum; Jazzedelic; Voo Doo Phunk; Ohm Guru; King Tubby; Omino
Stanco...)

And....from a totally different post...one related to the whole D*Note thread...
>Everything, of course, is released on Virgin, because nowadays Dorado
>belongs to Virgin (as far as I know).

Does anyone know if this is the case? Has Virgin picked up Dorado for their
entire catalogue? I don't think so, but stranger things have certainly
happened over the last few years. Personally, I'm still waiting for the
D*Note to be domestic in Canada, which the folks at Virgin have been
promising any day now (for the past coupla months). Sounds like it's well
worth the wait.

While I'm posting, I've got/bought a whoooooole bunch of new sh** over the
past while. Will post lotsa quickie reviews/opinions in near future, but in
the meantime I haveta mention two things on this label I've only just
discovered. The label is called Outcaste, and they focus fairly exclusively
on South Asian/Indian artists from various locales (primarily London &
India thus far). Wicked, wicked brilliant! The two releases I picked up so
far have convinced me to track down the label's entire catalogue.

Definitely check out Shri's "Drum the Bass" album - gorgeous, gorgeous,
gorgeous. The guy can play (lotsa instruments) like nobody's business! Wide
range in moods, some vocals, a few drum & bass influenced pieces.
Incredible. (is an ad for this in Straight No Chaser w/ UFO cover)

Also on Outcaste is a compilation that the liner's say is reflective of
their three year history. It's called "Untouchable Beats", is a triple
vinyl set, and features folks like Shri, Pressure Drop, Nitin Sawhney, Dave
Pike (the *original* version of "Mathar" from 1969 or so)....and a ton of
other artists. Brilliant, and also an incredible range of styles...from
rockin' sitar to totally textured jazz to jungle sitar and wayyyyyy more.
Loving it.

'K. 'nuff wordiness for now. Ciao for now.
