The Izzy Bar, NYC's newest, coolest nitespot!!
**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** October 22, 1997
Joyous Shout! is proud to announce that legendary jazz drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton and his Euphoria group will be featured performing for the entire evening on Monday November 17th at the Izzy Bar, 166 First Avenue, NYC tel. 212.228.0444 with three sets at 9 PM, 11 PM and 12:30 AM. The Euphoria group features Eric Person on alto & soprano saxes, Cary DeNigris on guitar and Paul Ramsey on bass. The Izzy Bar is one of NYC¹s up-and-coming hot spots and previous evenings by Chico back in August and September have been quite warmly received. Chico and his Euphoria group are enthusiastically looking forward to returning to the Izzy Bar for the fourth time this Fall.
We are looking forward to the imminent announcement of a new recording deal for Chico, and building upon the successes of the last few years we feel that 1998 will really be a remarkable year in the further adventures of Chic, Chic, Chico!! In 1997, Chico and his Euphoria group were honored to spend 5 days in Albi, France where Chico was Artist in Residence (doing clinics, master classes, a performance with a local big band doing arrangements of his music, and several shows with his Euphoria group), and if you will remember Chico¹s 10 city tour of France in 1996 was declared the ³Cultural Event of the Month² by a national daily newspaper. Also in 1997 was a 7 day tour of the UK with barnstorming dates in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Cambridge, Birmingham, Norwich and London. In London Chico also shot a feature for the NBC Europe show ³Talking Jazz² which will be shown this coming Fall, following up on the success of the European premiere of the documentary film ³Chico H
amilton- Dancing To A Different Drummer² on the French/German Arts Network ARTE which was seen by 165,000 viewers. This film debuts in North America this Fall on the new Ovation Arts Network.
We are also happy to bring to your attention Chico being selected as an honoree for the New School/Mannes 1997 ³Beacons in Jazz Awards², in recognition for his ³significant contribution to the evolution of jazz.² Still reverberating is all the talk about the incendiary performances by Chico and his Euphoria group Summer of 1997 at the Festival Int¹l De Jazz De Montreal (broadcast throughout all of Canada by CBC French Radio), at the Ford Montreux Detroit Jazz Festival on two different stages in one day (broadcast throughout all of the US by NPR), at the Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors Festival for 9000 people, at the Brecon Jazz Festival (broadcast throughout Wales on BBC Wales) in Wales, and Chico¹s first ever performance in Portugal on the Jazz Em Agosto Festival. Also continuing is Chico¹s impressive run in the Down Beat Reader¹s Poll Placing his ³Arroyo² CD in the ³Jazz Album of the Year² category in 1992, his ³Dancing To A Different Drummer² solo drum CD in the ³Jazz Album of the Ye
ar² category in 1995, his Euphoria group placing in the ³Electric Jazz Group² category for most the of the past 5 years, and Chico himself placing in the ³drums² category several times in the past 5 years.
Thanks.
Peace.
Keep the Faith.
Jeffrey
