RE: CTI Records

The CTI (and their sister label KUDU) roster reads like a who's who of soul
jazz (and even 'regular' jazz for that matter). They put out the classic tunes
that people still sample. And to top it off, Bob James was one of the in-house
producer/arrangers (and we only need "Nautilus" to know about his validity)
Here's a partial list from the top of my head: Grover Washington Jr., Milt
Jackson, Freddie Hubbard, Johnny Hammond, Stanley Turrentine, Idris Muhammad
(two words: "Loran's Dance"), Eric Gale, Joe Beck, Joe Farrell, Jim Hall, Paul
Desmond, Art Farmer, Randy Weston, Ron Carter, Esther Phillips, Don Sebesky and
that's only to name a few!!!

In the U.S., maybe about a 1/3 of the releases have been reissued through
Motown and Epic (I think?). But, you'd expect that all the 'funky' ones are
still in limbo. I've been collecting CTI/KUDU stuff for years and have yet to
find an end to their material, and I think I have well over 70 of their
releases. Talk about depth!!!

Deodata and Lalo Schiffrin have both been mentioned on the list
regularly over the last two weeks. Both were on CTI in the 70's. I
would like to know others.
