NOTES & COMMENTS ---------------- -I returned from NYC on Tuesday. I wish I didn't have to leave, but they say nothing lasts forever... only the bad stuff seems to drag on forever. -CMJ MusicMarathon was amazing! I had such a wonderful time, even though I didn't think that I learned a whole lot from the pannels I attended. The shows were great, particularly Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, George Benson, GURU, et al at SOB's on Friday. -Big shout out to CK Smart at OM and to Skiz at WordSound. It was a pleasure and an honor to meet you two. Keep the fat wax rolling. -My apologies to John at Island, Andrew at Ubiquity, Def Jam, and anyone else I didn't get to meet while in the Big Apple. I was on a pretty tight schedule and feel horrible that I didn't have the opportunity to pay a visit.
COMING SOON -Groove Essentials also presents the KEEPIN' IT REAL book release/signing party with author Kevin Powell on Wednesday, September 17 @ the Nomenclature Museum in Atlanta. -Mr. Powell discusses race, sex, music, his experiences with his family life, his time on MTVs THE REAL WORLD (I), and his work with Vibe Magazine in his new book KEEPIN' IT REAL. -Also, closer to home, Mr. Powell will be speaking on the UGA campus on September 30 7:30 PM at Georgia Hall at the Tate Student Center, $3 and $1 for students.
-Jamiroquai, playing in Atlanta in October.
-Hooverphonic, opening for Fiona Apple, playing in Athens in October.
