Whether you call it acid jazz or soul jazz, one thing's for sure*the greasy,
swinging grooves cooked up by the legendary Hammond B-3 organ player
JOHN PATTON are sure to have fingers poppin' and booties waggin'
when he makes his long overdue return to Chicago on Saturday,
September 27, 1997 for 2 special shows (10:00 p.m. and midnight) at the
Chopin Theater, located at 1543 W. Division Street in Chicago (just two
blocks west of the Kennedy or take the Blue Line "el" to Division).

With the rediscovery by d.j.s, hipsters, and rappers of the funky Hammond
organ sound of the late 60's and early 70's, John Patton has reclaimed his
crown as the king of the B-3 and found a new audience for his tasty brand
of soulful organizing. During his recording career with Blue Note Records
John Patton secured his place in the Hammond B-3 Organ Hall of Fame
by releasing more than a dozen of the most important jazz organ
recordings in their catalog. His PATTON-TED style which combines a
funky-edged left hand thump with a deceptively simple, deep
blues-drenched flavor has resulted in collaborations and recordings with a
diverse group of musicians including John Zorn, Cassandra Wilson,
Medeski Martin & Wood, Pharoah Sanders, Ike Quebec, James "Blood"
Ulmer, and of course a who's who of acid jazzers like Sweet Lou
Donaldson, Melvin Sparks, and Grant Green.

For these historic shows John Patton will be joined by guitarist George
Freeman and drummer Bob Guthrie. Freeman has earned enough credits
from the esteemed Ecole de Soul to have him headlining his own shows.
jazz workout, "The Bump," Freeman breaks off fat chunks of the funk that
have Cadence magazine praising his original style as "some simply
incredible guitar playing." Drummer Bob Guthrie gets the call from
Messrs. Patton and Freeman to provide his impeccable beats for this
all-star gig, just as he has for Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Jack McDuff and
a host of other A-list groovers.

Don't miss the man that Britain's Independent calls "the most groovesome
of the organ swingers."

Tickets for these two very important shows are just $12.50 (and worth it!)
through Ticketmaster. The Chopin Theater is a friendly, down-home,
intimate (read: small) club. Best get your tickets early to avoid
disappointment. THESE SHOWS WILL SELL OUT.
