As Rakim once said, "It's been a long time..."

here's the new news....

Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz and the experimental hip-hop DJ collection
Deep Concentration continue selling and getting major respect, college
radio play and are being played by DJs around the world. People we know
who've been spinning Deep Concentration are: Q-Bert, Shadow, Kid Koala,
Pete Tong, John Peel, Gilles Peterson, Coldcut, DJ Vadim, Richard
Dorfmeister, UFO, Jazzy Joyce, Stretch & Bobitto, Bambaataa and a host
of others - our older albums are still going along nicely and the
Blueboy song "Remember Me" from Mushroom Jazz is about to jump to
another level altogether in the U.S. It's currently #6 on the Billboard
Club Chart....thanks for your support and for supporting independent
music in general. It's exciting!

We also recently released a double CD/CD-Rom called Radical Beauty.
It's a beautifully made digitally animated work of art by one of the
best digital designers in the world - Nick Philip. He's done a lot of
stuff for WIRED Magazine and used to own Anarchic Adjustment Clothing in
S.F. The music was done especially for the CD by people like Skylab,
Jonah Sharp, T Power, Mixmaster Morris, PFM, Seba & Lotek, Jouneyman,
Daniel Pemberton. Any of you in Europe may have seen the video on MTV
Europe. It's pretty out there. Any how, it's well done and showcases
another part of what we're into at the label - graphically and
musically.

Om Records also has a new roster of artists most of you are just getting
introduced to. Lots of exciting things are planned for this year,
beginning with the first 12" from a new band we have called Eighty Mile
Beach. Their 12" single is out in stores now in limited quantities and
is titled: "arboleda de manzanitas". The Drum & Bass mix is by Sky
Juice and is sick. Here's the chorus: "It's time to wake up and
scream". I like that one. If you're into Portishead, very early
Everything But The Girl or Tom Waits - check 80 Mile Beach. A bass
clarinet is the main instrument in the tune. Their album "Inclement
Weather" will be out early next year. It features trumpet, harp,
digeridoo, flute, sax and some stoney sampled beatz.

Another 12" from an OM artist is also coming out - September 30th.
This one from the lovely Terra Deva called "Fresh Start". It's a jungle
track that rocks the club. The immediate reaction from a few promos is
that it's gonna be a slammer in dance clubs. Remixes are from Moving
Shadow's Deep Blue and a deep deep house mix from our own DJ Iz (Derrick
Carter's old roommate). Total butter. Check for Terra's full-length by
next year as well and go hunt in your favorite beat shop for the 12".

music is universal...

"When you're playing drum you're touching the heart and the brain. That
what move the people. That what move the spirit in the people. Cah the
people cannot move until you touch their spirit, and you wake their
spirit and the spirit wake their body."
