Uh, asshole, the Stevie Wonder comparison comes from somewhere; cliches =
begin somewhere, and I certainly didn't pull this one out of my ass. =20
Secondly, being a great musician don't mean shit, and it certainly =
don't win u points for creativity or originality? Ever hear of Yngwie =
Malmsteen? Great guitarist who couldn't write a tune to save his life. =
So the bassist from Jamiroquai can play like a motherfucker; the =
product's still the same old rehashed shit. Kurt Cobain may have not =
been the most gifted guitarist in the world, but that don't have the =
first thing 2 do with his uncanny songwriting ability. The fact that =
you make this argument and then state that I am the one who can't =
distinguish good from bad tells me that your elevator's a little slow =
getting to the top, dig? When you try to argue one point by alluding to =
something else which is unrelated (ie. originality and technical =
capacity, if I must point it out), you are arguing fallaciously (it's =
called the straw man fallacy; look it up or have someone intelligent =
explain it to u). =20
Basically Elson, I joined this newsgroup so that I learn from others =
with similar interests and share my knowledge with them. I certainly =
don't participate in such newsgroups to be insulted by halfwits like =
yourself who aren't capable of arguing logically. Furthermore, I would =
think that if you had any courtesy whatsoever, you would direct your =
personal gripes against myself or my posts (unfounded and inconclusive =
as they may be; I don't recall being rude) through more private =
channels. For the record, I own well over 1000 recordings, and they =
certainly DON"T fall exclusively in the categories of acid-jazz and =
funk, so don't play musical snob with me. I'm here to learn from those =
who know more than I, not to be insulted by those who think they do.
Finally, I noticed that u chose to conveniently edit my original =
post to suit the needs of your tirade. Had u bothered to digest the =
entire post, u would have noticed an attempt on my part to argue =
critically rather than maliciously; I did, after all, acknowledge that =
alot of Jamiroquai fans simply haven't been exposed to the music that =
preceded it. So what's your enlightened response to that? Stevie =
Wonder likes them!!!! I guess every Spice Girls fan has to drink Pepsi =
then, right? Try a more intelligent approach the next time; if I wanted =
verbal diahrea I'd watch more television. My sincerest apologies to =
everyone else in this newsgroup.

I'm not from the UK, and haven't seen this TV show, but can =
certainly understand why folks who dig funk would dislike this clown. =
These guys haven't recorded or played a single original note in their =
entire careers! Funk may be an old musical form, but I simply can't =
respect a new artist who is completely incapable of doing anything new =
or constructive with it.=20

I don't think that's a fair statement towards Jamiroquai. Sure, Jay =
Kay is a hypocritical twit who thinks he knows everything, but hey, =
that's just him. They still have one of the best bassists around (Stu =
Zender), a great keyboardist (Toby Smith) and a real tight drummer =
(Derrick McKenzie).
If you doubt this, you obviously haven't seen them in concert.
=20
Not doing anything new or constructive? "Do You Know Where You're =
Coming From" (the one produced by M-Beat, also the "Bonus Track" on =
their last album) was one of the first vocal pop/AJ/drum & bass tunes =
out there. You should also check out their upcoming material as well.=20
=20

My question is this: why should I listen to Jamiroquai doing Stevie =
Wonder poorly when I can just as easily put on "Innervisions" and listen =
to how it should be done? Jay Kay and his troop don't have anything new =
or interesting to offer, except maybe to those who don't know the old =
stuff.=20

=20
I think the Stevie comparison is more of a cliche than their music =
is. I don't know bout you, but Mr. Wonder himself quite digs the music. =
And it's not just Stevie I hear in there...I hear EWF, AWB, Rufus, =
Marvin Gaye, Isley Bros, Brothers Johnson, Sly, Level 42, etc. So it's =
quite narrow-minded to say they're ripping off Stevie; if you think they =
just sound like Stevie, I guess you don't know your music.
