Heya John et al,
Unless there was a local, additional, DJ booked to spin before the band,
the guy was likely Andy Smith, Portishead's own DJ. He also is the DJ with
Cup of Tea's Invisible Pair of Hands, a band comprised maily of Jim Barr
(bassist in Portishead) and a guy named Jesse, plus loads of
friends/guests. I also understand that Andy Smith is currently working on
his own album...in between playing all the P-head gigs of course. Hope that
helps.

p.s. speaking of Cup of Tea, thanks to all those in Ottawa, Montreal and
Toronto who came out to check Ben and Scott of Purple Penguin spinning up a
storm in each of those cities. I haven't danced so much in a *long* while.
The Penguin crew have a new album, _Question_ which will be dropping on Cup
at the end of May. We (Iron Music) will be releasing it this
summer...giving people a little more time to digest the domestic version of
_De-Tuned_. Ciao for now all.
