Hey list, what's up. I was up with some buddys last night chilling =
out when the movie "Fritz The Cat" comes on the tube. Besides being a =
very good animated cartoon, the soundtrack SLAMS!! Man, I couldn't =
believe how funky the whole thing was, perfect lay-back-smoke-a-joint =
music. For those of you unfamiliar with Fritz The Cat, it's a cartoon =
film from the 70's drawn by famous underground psychedelic cartoonist, =
Robert Crumb (The guy who coined the phrase "Keep On Truckin'). Man, =
the idea of a horny, pot-smoking cat hanging in the ghetto with black =
folk (portrayed by crows) is just one of the funkiest concepts I've ever =
come across, and the soundtrack certainly reflects that down-home feel. =
Besides featuring noted jazz-funk musicians like Bernard "pretty" Purdie =
and Cal Tjader, the soundtrack also features cuts from, among others:
-Billie Holiday
-Chuck Berry=20
-Dave Brubeck
-The Isley Brothers
-Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66
-Bo Diddley
-Charles Earland=20

What's more, the cd soundtrack to Fritz The Cat also comes combined =
with the equally funky soundtrack to the sequel movie, "Heavy Traffic", =
which is also worth watching. Anyway, it had been a few years since I =
last saw these movies, and I wasn't as heavily into the funk and =
funk-derived sound, so the soundtrack didn't freak me out as much as it =
did yesterday evening. I found a copy for about $22.00 Canadian at HMV =
and it's released by Fantasy records for anyone who thinks they might =
dig on this. I certainly did!!

Keep Bumpin'
