i'm an aj head from back in the day, whatever that means- this
genre is probably one of the hardest to characterize...i've got "older"
as well and i listen the hell out of it. same thing with madonna's
"bedtime stories". they're both two of my absolute best discs, with
fantastically sensitive, intelligent lyrics along with beats galore.
but i don't believe that they should be discussed at length on this
list- at least i would not want them to be- simply because of the
exposure certain artists already receive. perhaps the best thing about
this list and other non-mainstream lists is the opportunity to find the
gold nugget underneath the stone. it's not a vehicle to cater to
groups/artists that don't stick to the style or genre. although it
would be nice to be able to go off about the style of certain tracks on
the above mentioned releases, i'd rather hear about some obscure band
whose recording i'd have to special order from some little funky groove
shop. peace, list...
