mark - yma sumac is / was an american singer (real name amy camus
apparently - try reversing the letters). she claims to be an inca
princess. she made some amazing records - check 'voice of the xtabay'
(great cover - avail on CD) and one with les baxter (forget the name). her
'singing' is amazing - growling, operatic & everything in between and the
music is exotica / ethnic - pretty cool. there is a good chapter about her
in one of the research 'incredibly strange music' books. i'm sure you
wouldn't have much trouble finding stuff about her on the web.

les made some tracks with someone called 'bathsheva' (sp?) which are very
much in yma sumac's style if you've ever heard those.
