> Hi. A newbie here. There are a few CDs I'm thinking of getting, but I
>was hoping to get some info from you good folks first. See, I hate rapping as
>a vocal style. So, a lot of potentially great albums are ruined for me by the
>presence of rapping. Basically, what I'm looking for is good instrumental
>trip-hop, although I also like the sung vocals in bands like Portishead and
>Morcheeba. Anyway, if those of you who are familiar with the following CDs
>could let me know whether or not there's rapping on them, that would be great!
>Off-list, if you like. Or on-list if you think this might be of interest to
>others. In time, I guess I'll come to know better what *is* of general
>interest to those on the list. For now, I'm just hungry for knowledge and
>good, new music. Thanks! Here are the discs in question:

>Coldcut: Journeys by DJ: 70 Minutes
Get it if at all possible, it is widly regarded as one of the greatest mix
CDs EVER! I has a whole range of styles including some rap

>DJ Food: Recipe for Disaster
Great downtempo no rapping, just found the double 10", also check out the
remixes "Refried Food"

>Reflection: Errornormous World
Don't know

>Snooze: Man in the Shadow
Great Film Noir Groove, no rapping.

>Andrea Parker: Kiss My Arp
When using her own name usually means trip-hop with some vocals by herself,
don't know much about this particular release.

>Pilgrims of the Mind: Whatís Your Shrine?
>Sabres of Paradise: Haunted Dance Hall
>
Not sure.

n.p. Gang Starr "Step in the Arena" instrumentals-no rap, I love it, DJ
Premier, with no Guru--just don't like his delivery.

p.s. please call it Hip-Hop, when describing a genre as Rap I think of
Snoop, Dr. Dre, Puffy, all that Gagsta SHIT, but, as hashed out before the
verb rap as in the vocal style has a long and varied entomology, we'll need
a linguist for that.
