Did anyone else see the Groove Collective show at Wetlands last night? =
If so, what did you make of it?

I thought for the first set they were below par. They played material =
from the album they are going to start recording in a couple of weeks. =
This meant they were playing from sheet music. The music sounded as =
though it had a lot of potential - I'm sure I'll buy the album - but I'm =
not sure they were ready for an audience. Following a 45 minute sound =
check in front of the audience, it all seemed a little unprofessional. =
Perhaps seeing a band just before they start recording a new album is =
not the optimal time.

Thankfully, the extremely long second set more than made up for it. Here =
they made their way through their more familiar numbers in the =
traditional Groove Collective spirit. It was tremendous. The set didn't =
end until nearly three. I'm not sure why they didn't play Lift Off.

It seems they have parted company with Giant Step records. Does anyone =
know what happened there? Do Giant Step have any other acts beside =
Nuyorican Soul?

James
