Uh, well, The British seem to approve and possibly even encourage the term
"Brit." (i.e. Brit Awards, usage in the press). I don't recall any Japanese
encouraging the term "Jap" (which was used during the World War II years
as a way to demean them when they used to be the enemy...unfortunately it
was also used towards Japanese-Americans, most of whom didn't support their
Imperialist government (some of them even served in the US armed forces
and kicked Nazi ass in Europe) but were nonetheless placed in internment
camps and still called "Japs.")
