R.Scott,
If you belong to several lists like I do and receive e-mails
with cryptic subject fields that you have to open, hitting the delete
key DOES take a lot of effort. Furthermore, it's a matter of respect and
making the list work for all members (see Elson's excellent suggestions
to Erik). I think you are misunderstanding the debate. Very few of us
are actually debating gig postings, we're simply trying to come up with
a more efficient system so folks know where the mail's comin' from!

After having the flu for a couple of days, I came back to an
e-mail box at my office with 240 pieces of mail (including the weekend).
When I can streamline that, I'll lighten up!
