must have missed it, sorry. agreed, blame and justice have a nice
intricate sound. that they are in the same camp as hype/size/krust/rush
etc just goes to show how diverse the sounds are becoming. this is
good stuff!

Roni is definitely overrated by the music press, anything anyone has
produced is overrated by that kind of praise. but just because people
praise it highly to sell magazines, doesn't mean it is a pile of toss.
in fact i think the reprezent releases are pretty good ... definitely
a worthy attempt to push drum and bass in a less electronic, programmed
direction. the instrumental sounds work well. noone else has managed
to do that with half as much success. for that he deserves praise.

any discussion of roni size's talent should be placed in the context
of breakbeat as dance music from the roots of hardcore and rave.
it has come a long way (not better or worse, just distance-wise)
and roni et al have done some good work. besides, i think that tracks
like brown paper bag are awesome regardless of context. could anyone
have predicted the rough ragga sound of jungle tekno would have become
as sophisticated as some of the new sounds are?

i can't accept that. the entire jungle bizness is hyping reprezent
as well. the new year one in the jungle rewind show had slots for
all the players on the scene and i was impressed by the solidarity
they showed for roni and the reprezent effort. they don't seem to be
in any pain!

probably, but drop jazz or hi-tempo into a harder set and they blow
up the spot. i find the sound refreshing and exciting. and it was
a first attempt - essentially. as reprezent find their feet, i expect
bigger and better things from those guys. remember they are working
pretty hard. v recordings have been prolific as have full cycle - all
from the same stable of talent. here's to seeing what happens in 98!
