I'm glad to see the 'Peas get a good reaction from this list (you should
see the closed-minded opinions on rec.music.hip-hop - but what do THEY
know?), but I shouldn't be surprised, as
the Peas and their musicians are down with the whole AJ sound and scene
(they played mainly in acid-jazz-type
clubs and events here in town). Much of the players on the album came from
the scene - their guitarist used to play in a funk/jazz/ska ban called The
Beat Toads. Carlos Guaico, who played Rhodes on track #4, used to be the
Peas' keyboardist and the leader of a one-time popular local acid jazz band
called Mesh Of Mind. Miles Tackett, who played stand up bass and cello (he
plays it like a standup) on a couple tracks, is also leader of a rare
groove group called The Breakestra. Also, the flute playing on "That's What
It Is" (#11) was done none other than my homeboy Tommy O, who played
sax/flute in my former AJ band Jibe.
