McCoy Tyner's produced a few solo piano albums (I think one was called
'Revelations'?), which could fit over beats possibly - though he is/was
traditionally a very busy forceful player ...
however, there is one funky possibility to follow up:
"Asante" on Blue Note ... recorded 1970 ... the track is "Goin' Home" ...
the liner notes say: "Goin' Home finds McCoy in a rare moment of what might
well be described as funkiness, but HE prefers to earthiness" ...
definitely worth checking out if you can find it ... absolutely fantastic.
hope this helps,
dan.
