at the publicized show--viper room 6/28--she played more or less to
expectations. lots of new tunes--ok, maybe only 4, but to me that's a lot
for one show--and none of those "musicians" playing those funny spinning
things that they take platters on & off of... now, i think very few of us
that would read this post would be disappointed by our expectations being
met
--yes, she played some bass, her band is *slammin'*, and she had a great
exchange w/the audience. there was a great little bit where she made a dig
at brian mcknight (w/o mentioning his name--she's got class, you know) about
that hit he had that totally bit her melody for "outside your door". she
was
going on about how someone can "borrow" something of yours and enjoy it for
themself, like it's their own. i didn't get it at first, but it's better
that
way isn't it? if you see her show, keep an ear out for the hendrix medley
(she does a fun little twist on "you got me floatin'" and "spanish castle
magic"). she also talks about hendrix's feelings on the (very) small
segment
of his fan base that was black (i always wondered how he'd felt about that).
she also took a swipe at d&b ("...i don't know how to dance to it, and you
can't watch anyone's ass when they're moving that fast!"). i'll have to
work
on getting a pipeline to her so i can hip her to the real deal on d&b--yo!
dance to the bassline honey!! think dancehall, but w/double time drums...

anyway, i'm really glad i saw the show--though i'd like to see this other
group elson was talking about--they were playing on a night that i gig
somewhere else!!
