I love Prince Paul too, kinda like some of the J5 I've heard (uh, too old
skool?), and think the X-ecutioners are perhaps a little too hotshit for
their own good (and more importantly, the good of the flow-- but that
doesn't stop their album from having its moments), so use that when you
triangulate our taste correspondances. This is a shortlist of my favorite
semi-recent hip-hop:
New Kingdom
Mike Ladd*
The Herbaliser
Latyrx
Company Flow
Aceyalone
_Soul Assassins_ comp (featuring one of many great, great Wyclef Jean
tracks, naysayers be damned)
Hieroglyphics
_Deep Concentration_ compilations (featuring cuts from Prince Paul &
Mumbles {Aceyalone's brilliant producer})
_Subterranean Hitz, v.1_ comp (featuring cuts from the ubiquitous P. Paul,
Scotty Hard {who I believe produces w/the ridiculously awesome New
Kingdom}, dub/horror-MC Spectre, & one or two whack, whack-ass crews)
And, goes w/o saying, the holy trinity of Doc Octagon, Automater, & the
Invisible Scratch Piklz. And how could I forget that Wu-Tang joint about
the Body Shop!
;-> (actually, my girlfriend *loves* that one)
I'm sure I'm forgetting 2 or 3 of my favorites, but that'll have to do for
now. On my really-need-to-check-out shortlist you'll find:
Waiwan
L-Fudge
Yeshua Dapo ED
M.F. Doom
Cage
Scienz of Life
Cyclops 4000
Reflection Eternal
Sir Menelik
Siah
Jedi Mind Tricks
Dilated Peoples
Unspoken Heard
Opus Akoben
J-Live
Defari
Dilated Peoples
Eminem
_Eargasms: Crucial Poetics v. 1_
_NY Vibeology, vol. 1: Cosmic Grooves from the Underground_
_Dime Bag: 10 Dope Trip Hop Jointz_
(for info on the above three comps peep http://www.inch.com/~ozone/ )
Any info on any of these would be much appreciated!
