I saw John Hardaway live this summer, and he/they did just that...used
sax and flute + other live instruments in dnb. It worked well, VERY well
in fact!

As of late, ive been listening to, and spinning (at my weekly club,
"Bass":

Breakbeat Era - "breakbeat era" 12" (XL)
Roni Size, Dj Die and some female singer make up Breakbeat Era, who i
personaly think will deliver this years second-dopest dnb album (after 4
Hero of course).

Fusion Forum/Future Forum/Fusion Force/Future Force.. or something like
that... I really cant remember the name of the artist or the songs, but
its a 12" out on 4 Hero's label. 2 good tracks on the a-side and a
AMAZING track on the b-side...very VERY jazzy and with a beutifull
orchestrated intro.

Mark B & Blade - "hitmen for hire" 2x12" (jazz fudge)
Allmost as good as UK hiphop can get... Mark B's beats are incredible as
allways and even tho Blade aint no Roots Manuva (best british mc ever?)
he defenetly does a good job. The skit "one to the head" is hillarious,
and allmost worth the price allone.

Pelding - "the skunk" EP (jazz fudge)
Pelding is made up of half-of The Prunes + someone else..i think. And i
heard they used alot of live instruments. Anyways, its dope!

various - "black whole styles" LP (big dada)
The first full album from ninja tune's daughter label Big Dada. You'll
get songs from all of Big Dada's six 12"s (including some remixes) +
some new stuff from amongst others Roots Manuva and Toastie Taylor.
The only non-UK heads here are Abstract Rude and Saul Williams (now
THATS a sign of good taste!).

soundtrack - "Wild Style" 2xLP
soundtrack - "Wild Style Instrumentals" LP
recently re-issued by Mr.Bongo. Do i even have to say that its dope?

The Upsetters - "super ape"
I cought Lee Perry live this summer and fell in love... luckily my
friend is a reggae nut (i dont know shit about reggae and dub) and he
keeps handing me albums i should listen to. This is probably the best
ive heard so far.

Dj Skitz feat. Roots Manuva + more - "fingerprints of the gods" 12"
(Ronin)
I was looking for Skitz/Roots Manuva's "how my mind works" (sup Deal
Real?) and ended up with this one instead. The b-side has a track
(forgot the name) which is amongst the best things ive heard this year!

Latyrx - "lady dont tek no" 12" (solesides)
I dono how many times Lady Dont Tek No have been released now (i have it
on four different twelves and LP's!), but no matter if you have it or
not, this 12" has two new songs... "Loost in the feelings" and
"Regions".

Black Science Orchestra - "future juju" LP
I got this album months ago, but i kinda slept on it until now.
Actually, i dont like all of it but theres this one track (strarts off
with a long and fast drumbreak before its acompagnied by this dreamy
soundscape/synth) which is incredible!
We're talking Ashely Beedle and James Brown here, so dont hesitate in
picking it up!

Sentient Wanderings - "selph tighteld" (Influessence)
I just have to plug my crews debut-release, sorry ;) Unfortunately the
CD-pressing is delayed so we werent able to release it two weeks ago,
like we were sposed to... but i have a tape so ill survive ;)
If you like Blowed, Living Legends, Hobo Junction and the whole LA/Bay
Area underground scene you might just wanna check out this CD when it
drops.

Other stuff i spin includes The Herbaliser - "wall crawling giant insect
breaks"; the last 4 Hero album; Wax Doctor; Dj SS; Jungle Jazz comp.;
Ras Kass - "Understandably smooth/music of the business"; Booker T & The
MG's - "melting pot"; Major Force - "essential dub"; Photek - "ten ni
itchi ryu" (i finally found the 12"!)...oh, and check out the new Primus
album (Rhinoplastry or something) which has coversongs of Peter Gabriel,
Metallica, XTC and more + a insane live version of Tommy The Cat (again!
thats like the Primus-bootleg anthem #1)

peace!
