Sneaker Pimps frontwoman Kelli Dayton has left the band. Although the
split had been in the works for a while, officials from Virgin Records
confirmed her exodus on Tuesday. The trio, which includes guitarist
Chris Corner and keyboardist Liam Howe, went into their London studio to
begin recording a new album, and things "just didn't work out," a Virgin
spokesperson says.
Dayton is currently working on a solo project, and it's unclear as to
whether she'll remain on the Virgin roster. As for the remains of
Sneaker Pimps, Corner has been pulling vocal duty during the sessions,
although it has yet to be determined whether he will remain as the
group's sole singer. Other possibilities: He and Howe will share the
mic, or possibly hire another female singer, or bring in guest
vocalists. Dayton will not appear at all on the album, which is
currently looking at a spring 1999 release.
