Up here (Toronto), the milk crates are slightly smaller than the older ones
that can fit vinyl (they were dropped from production when Canada turned
metric and started making 4 L bags of milk). What we usually do is
when we spot an old crate that fits records (eg. sitting on someone's porch,
at a garage sale, on someone's bike) we lift the crate and replace it
with the slightly smaller milk crates. We figure it's a fair exchange
and the people who were in possession of the larger crates
1) were not using them for records
2) weren't the rightful owners of the old crate to begin with
A little devious but it works out for all involved. Our crew has never
had trouble storing our growing collections.
