I decided to get this so sallied forth to discover not one but 3 CDs.
Vol 1 is classics, vol 3 is contemporary. Picked up Vol 1 with a few old
school gems: Roxanne Shante dissin KRS 1 on Have a Nice Day; Sweet Tee
etcetc. A few weeks ago I put up a post asking for direction to good and
conscious female MCs and lo and behold vol 3 has What What and Bahamadia
- 2 of the artists that many of you were good enough to drop in
responses. No Li'l Kim or Foxy Brown. But maybe that's a good thing.
Anyone know of a really good history of Hip Hop book? A couple of years
ago BBC2 did a history of rock called Dancing in the Streets - otherwise
excellent but the hip hop programme was weak. speaking of hip hop
legends Bambaata replaces Gravediggaz at Texaco Jazz Festival (!)
tomorrow night in New York City.
* Is this title not one of the the worst things to come out of record
company strokey-beardy concept meetings in a long time?! Everybody say
"Cheese"...
