I forgot to mention anything about either Glastonbury or Liverpool, so here
it is:
Glastonbury:
Record shops: Tor Records - rare vinyl, plenty of 70s rock & roll
and a good jazz & blues section but its mainly a rock shop. Avalon Records
is also good, but only if you want obscure indie and 80s pop, so I don't go
there that often :-)
Clubs/nights: None to speak of whatsoever, but there are a few local
jazz bands who play in the cafes in town, mainly the Global cafe and the
Assembly Rooms. Glastonbury isn't really a happening town, its full of
long-haired potheads mostly, with a healthy proportion of retired couples.

Liverpool:
Record shops: Loads and loads and loads. Essence Records (top of
Bold Street) is great for pretty much anything, upstairs is loads of
acid-jazz vinyl, 70s soul vinyl and other stuff, downstairs is electronica,
some hip-hop, some old-skool jungle (wuuuddeeebbbwwwwwooooooyyyyyy!) and
loads of melodic trance/techno.
3-beat records (in the Palace, nr. Slater street) is a modern dance shop,
but they have a very good d&b section and get loads of promos and stuff,
even though its mainly a house/garage store (Judge Jules and the like get
their stuff from 3-beat). They've helped me get old Metalheadz records
before, and the staff aren't too cool to talk to you.
There's another one on Bold street about 1/2 way up, its underground, small
but has a good soul vinyl section and a fair bit of jazz in there. Claims to
be a 'Beatles specialist' which gives you an idea of the rest of the stuff
in there...
There are hundreds more shops, many over the Mersey on the Wirral, but I
haven't visited them all yet...
Clubs/Nights - Drum & bass headz should check out Chrome (@3rst) on Friday
nights, establishing itself as _the_ best d&b night in Liverpool, recently
got competition from a night called Funktion, but that's getting a bad
reputation due to non-appearance of DJs. Big Beat nights include the 'Little
Big Beat Club' (Brewery, Berry street) every other Friday.
Voodoo (@Clear) on Saturdays is the best for techno of all sorts, and their
allnighters are infamous for the 5-day fallout they have on everyone who goes...
Hip-hop is represented well at No-Fakin (@Zanzibars), excellent residents
and guests, also check out Mello Mello bar on most nights, there's a
long-haired bloke who spins the _dopest_ instrumental Mo Wax-y style hip-hop
ever.
HeebieJeebies club - The best club in Liverpool. Jazz of all sorts most
nights, Fridays have guest DJs (have included the Herbaliser, Beastie Boys
and Andy Smith from Portishead in the past, Saturdays is live jazz band
night, mondays is Jazz cellar and Thursdays anything goes, my mate is
putting on a trance night there tomorrow night. Small, friendly and a great
atmosphere. I love this place.
There's many I've missed out here, but anyone coming up to the North West
email me and I'll let you know some details of what's going on. :-)

Hope at least some of that was interesting... ;->
