mp3s

Hey list,

I have noticed lately that people keep on asking about sites with mp3s
of Acid Jazz and there aren't any. Why doesn't someone make one? Mp3's
are easy, and free to make. Now I would, but I don't have much of a
selection of music. But I'm sure if other people made them and e-mailed
them to me, I have 5 spare megabytes, and I do have some music of
course, so we could make one! Here's how to make an mp3:

Get the cd you want;
Get a CD ripper. This program will take the information digitally from
your cd drive to .wav format. The big problem however, is that some cd
rippers do not work with some cd drives, and some cd drives do not
support cd ripping for copyright reasons, so you will have to check, and
maybe try a few. If all else fails, you can sample it with a program
like cooledit, but the quality won't be so good. If you sample at the
highest sampling rate though, it sounds good enough. You can get these
from www.mp3.com somewhere;
Once you have the song on wav, you need to get an mp3 encoder. Again you
can get these from mp3.com. You can compress at different qualities, and
with each quality, the size also varies.

(A good mp3 player is winamp or macamp, available at www.winamp.com)

I don't think copyright should be a problem, as most bands come from
relatively small record labels who aren't going to be bothered scouting
around the web looking for illegal mp3 sites. Even if someone does
object, all they will make us do is take down a few files.

Anyone who is interested please respond.
