The rebirth compilations are all very nice but my favourite is nr 4. The
problem is that there are different versions. US/UK versions have different
songs. For instance my first Rebirth is called By definition a jazz tip,
nothing with blues and there is also a difference between vinyl versions and
cds. A trend is that the labels are putting more on the cds than on the
vinyl edition which im y opinion really sucks. It has been discussed here
before and it's a little
difficult to compare them. Another thing is that most of the stuff is
already out on 12"s (not promos, just normal issues) long before the
compilation comes out. Of course they offer a very good range of quality
music if you don't or can't buy singles and I somehow think they are
collectors' items because of the nice coverwork.

Prices of new vinyl are becoming pretty high lately. Lyricist Lounge: $28
(okay granted for 4 lps), Gangstar $25. Patrick Forge comp (which is by the
way a good addition to the rebirth series): $25.
It's not just retail-prices, also wholesalers have to pay more. Where are
the good times that a double lp costed $12.50? I'm glad the bargain bins are
still there. I found Tania Maria: Love Explosion, with the Funky Tambourim
track there yesterday for a decent price. I saw the Jackie Brown soundtrack
on vinyl as well. The store was playing Who is he and what is he to You by
Bill Withers. Anyone listened to the whole thing? Reviews please...

cheers,
