_Alive_ is supposedly one of the most-sampled albums in history, & it is
indeed a smoker. _Green is Beautiful_ & _Carryin' On_ are studio albums
from this late 60's period, and imo very proto-AJ. The recently reissued
_Live at the Lighthouse_ 2lp is like an amped-up version of the other live
set, and quite possible the best of the lot. All but _Lighthouse_ have
Idris Muhammad on drums, which is a large part of why they're a) held in
such high esteem & b) groove like a motherfucker.

Incidentally, if you ask an old-skool jazzbo what Green's best album is,
odds are 10 to 1 he'll say _Idle Moments_. Which is a beautiful album, but
from an AJ perspective, I'd investigate the above first. Grant's albums
with the awesome Larry Young are all eminently worthwhile, as well.
