and taught me to love n haight Dear list: today i went to my local
Funky goodwill store and bought Steppenwolf" The Second" found a
beat) First Editions"transition" ditto, Some group named Elf(didnt
get to play yet) But the most rewrding thing was to get the Allman Bros
"Beginnings " . On here there is a beat .. er song called " Black
Hearted Woman." I immediately went to the part where the color of the
groove changed and bam! I hear this drumbreak . Im not talkin MOby
dick or the kind of Iron butterfly shit that rock drummers of this
time did .Im talkin Clyde Stubblefield proto-hip hop shuffle. As
listened to it it sounded familiar so i dug out "deja vu" on Luv n
haight and sure enough on track 3 Chuck Carbo on " Can I Be You
Squeeze" opens wuth something similiar,. There is a "drummers
difference" but its clearly there. First of I only played this baby
("deja Vu") once since i bought it, which proves , Im really good a
this beat shit b now. but more importantly the main part of Carbossong
is the bassline from "Born Again "by Eddie 'Bo" Horne. This is cool
since i wanted to get a clean sample of it and forgot about the lnk to
Chuck Carbo' s song! So the Moral is 1. Music built on linkages even
before samplers. 2. The Allman bros aint so bad 3. people of all
colors should live in harmony. 4. funk isevery where. 5. The goodwill
is a great place to shop. 6. ivegot a great memory for beats though
there are people on these lists who are much better but im no slouch.
