Does anyone know where I can get
pseudo-political slogans printed up
on stickers ?
I want:
BOYCOTT TWILO
anti-underage
anti-rave
anti-PLUR
BTS ( Beat The Shit ) Nasty Bouncers.
Please send any information my way, please.
This is inspired by an awful experience I had
Halloween night, well, technically Sunday early morn.
I waited two hours outside in freezing cold
( and I had to go to the bathroom )
from 3:30 to 5:30 am;
after walking around all night in the Village Parade
( as a very misunderstood redheaded Psyche, sans Cupid ),
partying with the Wanderlust crew at 13th & Washington,
watching the Silver Apples & Makeup ( from D.C. )
for free ( ! ) at the Cooler;
getting cawfee from Dizzy Izzy Bagels on W 14th;
to get inside to hear Junior and Cyndi Lauper.
Twilo was shut down by the police for 1 and 1/2 hours.
Too overcrowded, I think, fire hazards.
So the BTS were being " selective " about who they let in.
What they wanted: Men ( and this included fugly guidos ).
What they didn't want: Women ( and this included some hot babes ).
I was turned away at the door,
as well as two Japanese chicks with blonde wigs,
and a beautiful British stripper in feathers, Vanessa.

eighteen month journey which will
culminate in an exhibition / performance
tour of Scotland in late 1999,
and launch of a poetry website in Spring 2000.

Wednesday, Nov. 4th 1998 @ 6 pm
132 East 35th Street at Lexington.
Despite strong community opposition,
CHARAS/El Bohio Community and Cultural Center
was sold at a public auction on July 20th.
The buyer ?
GREGG L. SINGER,
a condo developer who caters to upscale professionals
in Westchester County, suburban New Jersey,
and the Upper West Side.
Now Greedy Gregg sees a profit potential on the LES,
and is willing to evict dozens of arts and community groups
from their longtime home in order to turn a buck.
THE SALE IS NOT FINAL,
SO NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.
Join us in paying a visit to Greedy Gregg Singer's home
to let him know how we feel about him invading ours.

What Goes Around Comes Around.
in these days of mayoral fiat and
rampant real estate speculation,
the ppl of new york city find themselves
under attack in our own home,
and alienated from our happily hurried
way of life. this screening sets out to
demonstrate how the excesses of
80's homophobia, overspending,
genocide by inaction are not so far
removed from today.
tonight's selection of films show
that AIDSphobia is STILL being used
to desexualize gay culture.
the juxtaposition of explicit lesbian sex
films ( from 1973 to 1993 ) shows how
incendiary this imagery remains.
AIDS lingers on and even while the
mortality rate is deckling, the infection rate
continues apace. so we present the somber
meditation of " Two Marches ," which reminds
us that dashed expectations are nothing new
while Stuart Gaffney's video essays pull us
into the present dilemma of problematic
AIDS treatments.
Jan Oxenberg's classic is disruptive
of homosexual complacency,
underscoring the need for a dynamic
identity politics that embraces the
stone butch as much as the
translesbianism of Texas Tomboy.
this program is defiantly experimental,
because we believe that the
narrative strategies employed by even
such " transgressive " and " controversial "
films as " Happiness " and " Boogie Nights "
serve to comfort the viewer and distract
the authentic expression of the individual.
these films are the colour of blood.

an anonymous band of renegades
is please to announce the debut of
Brooklyn Babylon Cinema,
a monthly screening of film and video.
Brooklyn, because that's where we are.
Babylon, because it connotes the type
of moving-image media we present:
the profane, the filthy, the rejected.
But this also includes the visionary.
The naive and the artful.
Babylon because of Kenneth Anger's
indelible linking of the word to the
sordid side of Hollywood which is the
only side we'd want to see.
Babylon because we can go from
Michael Snow to Guy Debord
to Forbidden Zone to Prelinger Archives
to Vaginal Davis videos.

From the freaks, misfits, malcontents,
eight-balls, and welder-women at the
Brooklyn Cacophony Society.
Santa Claus is coming to town, reeking heavily of
Christmas Spirits. Santasm '98 is coming to an
overdeveloped island metropolis near you !
NYC will be invaded by drunken Santa Clauses
travelling in packs. If your jingle bells are as big
as ours, you'll call in sick for December 11th to 13th,
don your gay apparel and join us.

- and also another event in mid-November -
HIPSTER BINGO ( date TBA )
Join us as we reap the rich harvest of hip
afforded by our island metropolis neighbours.
Your own Luz Canon will be orchestrating
this traditional Cacophony pursuit,
which originated as " Tourist Bingo " in LA
and metasized into " Barfly Bingo " in Portland,
land of the honoured habitual drunk.
Agents of the Cacophonic Conspiracy are
dutifully scouting bars for the optimum
drip-with-hip location.
( I think they were discussing
Deb Parker's Barmacy,
but I think Galapagos/Ocularis
at 70 North 6th St., Williamsburg
would do just fine.
The place is knee-deep mired
in the stench of the disgustingly hip. )
