My weekend was interesting,
Friday, I finally got up the courage to read
at the Q & Q open mic @ Pink Pony Cafe on Ludlow, LES.
Brand New Girls at Arlene’s Grocery rocked !
Later, Unity Gain was in a cramped little bar on East Broadway
in the hinterlands of Chinatown, it was hot and stuffy.
Saturday, I went to the new york drum ‘n bass collective
NYC UNITED party at club fantasia ... awesome !
I almost got killed going to a loft party in South Williamsburg
afterwards cuz ppl were throwing stones
at the front windshield of the cab I was in.
The friendly Pakistani taxi driver
warned me as I was stepping out:
" Be careful, it’s a dangerous neighborhood. "
" Oh, " I replied, " I’m a New Yorker,
I don’t faze easily. "
Sunday, I bought records at Ladybug,
an antique store on Bedford Avenue, Bklyn.
Vinyl includes Philip Glass, modern Indonesian music
made with traditional instruments, Spanish loungecore muzak,
some old A-Jazz head: Leonard Cohen-something,
selections from old Hollywood silver screen celluloids
including a Marilyn Monroe rendition of the song
from "Some Like It Hot" and Mancini’s "Moon River"
by Audrey Hepburn from ( I think ) "Breakfast at Tiffany’s,"
sound samples and audiotaped lectures
from WW II by Edward R. Murrow ( yay ! ),
1970s dance hit tracks from Germany,
soundtrack from a TV show featuring
Donna Summer and the Temptations, etceteras.
All for the fine price of $ 25 bucks ! ( yay ! )
Afterwards, I finally purchased toliet paper
for my apartment at Food Emporium ( yay, I guess ).
