some recommended listening:
compost 050 with tracks by rainer truby trio, fauna flash, beanfield,
forest mighty black whose last track "til the end" is lush and dreamy.
this cd even came with a compost sew-on patch!
new outcaste comp - too untouchable - this was released this year in the
u.k., and should be available soon domestically with tracks by pressure
drop, nanda shankar, badmarsh, cornershop, nitin sawhney, etc.
new kruder & dorfmeister full length on k7 -- as most people said,
though most of the tracks were previously released, it is great to have
them as a collection
filter - this comp which will be released soon on ultra is comprised of
material that came out on dorado in '96, but still sounds fresh with a
tunes by sunship, d-note and others. speaking of still fresh, after i
heard the d-note track, i pulled out my criminal justice cd by d-note.
it's superb throughout -- solomon's blade, especially, still gets me
every time.
waiwan - distraction- early this last summer i had asked this list about
waiwan and got a few positive responses. then i heard one of its
tracks, unfiltered funk, on a mixmag magazine comp and was blown away by
that one track. i had gone to a few record stores previously unable to
find it (i don't normally purchase cd's through the net). but finally
got my hands on it and every track is supreme. particularly love the
deep and the seventh track.
leon thomas - facets, the legend of leon thomas - those of you who like
the old stuff and purchase vinyl may want to look into this. it's got
the great song "creator has a master plan" with lonnie liston smith plus
other great tracks including "china doll" which i like though i do not
care for the lyrics
other things i heard that sounded good upon first listen:
om lounge
the latest mushroom jazz CD
60 channels - not as good as jaz klash, though and i noticed monday
michuru does vocals on one track, but then took a listen and
unfortunately, she only repeats the same 3 words throughout the song
outside - suspicious - upon first listen, i was extremely disappointed
it was not as good as previous recordings
still anxiously waiting to hear talvin singh's ok and the new brazilian
thievery corporation singles
also wanted to mention i saw a good 1956 french movie called elevator to
the gallows with a soundtrack by miles davis starring jeanne moreau. if
you french films with a hitchcock kind of plot, you will enjoy this.
but expect a few surreal scenes as the main character walks the streets
in search of her loved one...these scenes contain dialogue that belong
in an eternity commercial.
