Subject: NYC: GROOVE COLLECTIVE @ SOB's / RECLAIM THE STREETS of NYC
wow--it's really happening, right now. i'm in my office at broadway and
astor, and damn if they haven't shut down broadway! they've raised this
three-poled teepee like thing and there's a guy up top, and it's blocking
the street. i count about 200 people dancing and milling around, music's
playing, goans are going, and the cops are starting to mass up (around 20 of
them right now).
i love new york.
uh, the head cop has a bullhorn, somethin's gonna happen...."you will be
arrested...." now there's 15 cops on scooters formed in a wedge who lined up
in front of the teepee, they just arrested a guy, "whose streets? OUR
STREETS" 3:20-3:40 police clear the sidewalks....3:50 cops turn the sound
off.....3:51 teepee guy climbs down, is arrested 15 seconds later....3:52
teepee comes down, cops start to clear street 3:56 the street is clear, the
crowd has walked down waverly to washington square park.......i can't see
anything anymore.....
