I remember this point being discussed. It was suggested that the geographical area be listed in the subject line (subject: L.A. - OO Soul.....). I personally think it's imperative to promote on the list. The DJ's do it for their radio programs and I look forward to it. Also, if you're only reading posts from people you know, give 'em a call.

Not at all. I totally second Pirkka's comments. I'd wager at times, one
third of the emails are related to gigs that most of us can never get to.

How about this: If you're a promoter, find out who on the list is in your
area and keep a local email list to promote your stuff. Maybe Erik can set
up something on the acid-jazz mailing list website listees can match a name
with a location if they're interested in the local gig info.

It hasn't and I think it's because Pirkka's been away for a while that he
has the perspective we need. I've been on the list continuously for at
least 4-5 years and I agree that the recent growth of the gig PR stuff is
slowly getting out of hand. I throw all that stuff away without even
looking at it even though some of it is relevant to the Los Angeles area.
There's so much to process that I quickly run to the reviews and comments
from the people I know who are saying stuff I want to read.

Let's see if anyone else agrees and maybe we can figure out some new policies?
