Just got my brain cells back together after last weeks fest here in
Toronto. Here's my take on the highlights of the headliner shows

Thurs Aug 27th: Pucho and his Latin Soul Bros. first Toronto
appearance was a great crowd pleaser especially since he filled in
for Shri and Badmarsh who cancelled their tour. The night was
originally planned as a more drum n' bass, dub electronic vibe but
Pucho's stage charisma and undeniable funky beats had 'em jumpin.
Pucho's set was followed by Nighmares On Wax DJ Ease who played an
amazing set. Locals Sourfly followed with a great set of funky techno
from a huge bank of terminals and other (heavy) electrnoic gear.

Friday Aug 28th: The Greyboy Allstars and Liquid Soul provided a
great vibe down by the waterfront with a great turnout of 1400 for
the free gig. Gilles Peterson in Toronto for a little more than 12
hours before jetting back to London threw down a great set at
our (Hot Stepper) weekly Friday night called Overproof @ Bauhaus. The
500 odd crowd that packed the top floor just drank in every minute!
Resident Jason Palma held down the rest of the night tight as a
drum.

Saturday Aug 29th: A Bump N' Hustle opening set with Panic, DJ's Paul
E. Lopes, Mike Tull and Divine Earth Essence primed the crowd for
the fabulous Sylk 130 fumk mob. EXCELLENT show! Amazing energy and
beats. King Britt topped it off with a great funky house set followed
by Chicago's J-Dub and Montreal's Fred Everything

There were loads of other acts and DJs who made this a great musical
event but these were just the headliner highlights...

Huge big ups to our partners in this event... Jonathan Ramos of REMG,
listee Denise Benson of Tommygrl and Bev May of Ritual/Trancendance

upcoming Hot Stepper nights in Toronto:

weekly: FRIDAYS - OVERPROOF @ Bauhaus DJ Jason Palma + guests
SATURDAYS - returning to Ganite Lounge Saturday Aug 12th
FUNKTION featuring Jason Palma and Mike Tull

monthly: 416 - at various locations - last night was the launch at
The Granite Lounge of this monthly garage house series featuring
Torontos old school house crews (12 in all) who are hungry to
revive the garage vibe in the city. Judging from last night turnout
we'll need a larger space next month.

quarterly: BUMP N' HUSTLE - next BNH @ The Opera House on Halloween
featuring Panic, Alana Bridgewater, Turnstylz scratch crew, DJs
Paul E. Lopes, Mike Tull, Jason Palma and more...
