>Album reviews:
>
>Various "The Land In Between"
>Straight from the Mid-West comes Regime Records droppin' us with some dope
>material. They have been making noise in Chi-Town, Milwaukee, Janesville,
>Beloit, Madison, and on other Mid-West radio stations to get their artists
>heard across the country. They've been published in major magazines from
>the August Rap Sheet issue, Rapes Pages, Urban Network, and Gavin, to let
>readers know that Regime does exist. The album showcases Regime recording
>artists like Club Mecca, Big Three, Noname, Rob Deez, and many others to
>display on what the label is capable of doing. Their release "The Land In
>Between" is their first chapter to show us how good they really are. So,
>they are here to show and prove.
>
>The album has some sweet tracks to bump. To heat up the summer, Club Mecca
>drops their jewel "Guard Your Life" to keep sh*t blazing. It's the most
>illest track on the entire CD. "Diamond Studd*ish" from Big Three has a
>spicy beat for the DJ's manipulate on the 1200's. Rob Deez puts it down on
>this album with his track "Who' dat MC" which is kinda sweet, too. Greg
>Doby and Richard Henderson hooked up some nice beats for this project. Not
>to mention, nice lyrics from the emcees as well. Also, the record has some
>R&B material for the ladies. So, the record has hot tracks to keep heads
>entertained for the summer.
>
>People can purchase this record off from Regime's web-site at:
>http://www.regimerecords.com or off other various sites across the
>internet. The album is available on compact disc and cassette formats only.
>The single "Guard Your Life" is on vinyl format!
>
>Look out for the Regime Records tour taking place in Chicago, Milwaukee,
>Minneapolis, and Detroit, this summer!
>

>Mountain Brothers "Self - Volume 1"
>Straight from Philadelphia, PA, comes the three man crew The Mountain
>Brothers. In 1996, they released their EP. In 1997, they released
>"Paperchase/5 Elements" off from Ruffhouse/Columbia Records that was making
>noise in the underground scene. In addition, in 1996, they won the Sprite
>"Rhymes From The Mind" contest. Their Sprite commercial was aired on urban
>contemporary. Therefore, they already established a name with hip-hop heads.
>
>The Mountain Brothers bring jazzy, original work that spices up the summer
>of 1998 with dope sounds to play in peoples' tape-decks. "Galaxies" heats
>things up on the album with nothing more than a hit single on the LP.
>"Paperchase" is my favorite track on the record. It has an amazing beat
>that is incredible. The MB's lace this beat with some nice rhymes to bring
>us a sick track. "Whiplash" and "The Adventures Of..." are both honorable
>mentions that people should look for on the album. The album doesn't have
>enough material from the MB's. If I was the Mountain Brothers
>executive-producer, they would had released a double album instead. That's
>how dope "Self - Volume 1" is. Make sure to pick up this album when you
>have money to spend since this album is hotter than Jennifer Lopez!
>

>Mix-Tape reviews:
>
>Aerosolics: Musical Burner Mix-Tape
>
>DeeJayBird (djjbird1@aol.com) of the Time Travel Crew brings us the
>"Musical Burner Mix-Tape" that's dedicated to graffiti. It's not your
>average mix-tape with just the latest cuts on a tape. Instead, the tape
>plays tracks that's about graffiti from Company Flow's "End Of End Burner"
>to Artifacts "Wrong Side Of The Tracks." The idea of doing a tape dedicated
>to graffiti has to be probably one of the dopest ideas since no one ever
>has done that. Us graffiti writers or former graffiti writers will
>appreciate the concept of this mix-tape since it's dedicated to all you
>bombers!
>
>Anyone that listens to this mix-tape will hear another gem that should be
>in everyone's music collection. Place this next to your Beat Street, Wild
>Style videos, next to your "Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik" mix-tape, and
>make room for this sick tape that deserves to be in every hip-hop heads
>tape deck. This is surely something to pick up. The mixing on the album is
>nice and professionally done. The track list for this tape is dope and
>should keep the listener paying attention since it has dope material.
>There's even freestyles on the tape from the Roots which is another added
>bonus that a tape collector will get if they purchase this cassette. So,
>anyone should buy this tape.
>
>Tape featuring the tracks:
>* Company Flow - End To End Burner
>* Lords Of Brooklyn - Takes From The Rail
>* KRS-ONE - Out For Fame
>* Grandmaster Caz - Subway Rap
>* Lee - Obstacles Of Vandalism
>* Black Thought & Rahzel - On The Go Graffiti (Freestyle)
>* Beastie Boys - Stop The Train
>* Artifacts - Wrong Side Of The Tracks
>* Dilated Peoples - End Of Time
>* Man Parrish - Hip Hop Be Bop

>DiatOm (diatomaceous@hotmail.com) - Hand-Ear Coordination
>
>DiatOm recently released his mix-tape "Hand-Ear Coordination" that brings
>nothing more than true underground sounds for everyone's tape-decks. DiatOm
>is only 17 years old and already ripping it up on the turntables. He's
>trying to floss by putting out this mix-tape, so people can hear his
>turntablism skills and try some experimental mixes.
>
>The selection that DiatOm has on the tape is nice. This tape has everything
>you want from Network Reps "Collabo" to Siah "Repetition" that are phat. In
>addition, there's other dope underground sounds from Self Scientific's
>"Degrees," Living Legends "Till It's Gone," to Jizzm f/ Evidence of Dilated
>Peoples "Bass'd On Principal." So, the tape has some nice material to bump
>in your walkman.
>

>AWOL One interview - 8/12/98
>
>M. Villa: How long have you been involved with Project Blowed?
>AWOL One: I've been going to Project Blowed since the opening night -
>December 1994. I don't go every week. But, I go often. Before that, I would
>go to the good life every once in a while. Fish did the sound system up
>there. And, if you would cuss, you would get cut off.
>
>M. Villa: How did you and the Mass Men meet?
>AWOL One: I got introduced to Fat Jack (Mass Men Producer) when I was
>around 16 years old by Massive (Producer for Volume 10.) At that time,
>Massive was working with DJ Slip. And, he was making beats for a crew I was
>in called M.T.S.
>
>M. Villa: Do the Mass Men plan on releasing a record in the near future?
>AWOL One: Fat Jack is putting out a Mass Men compilation record. I did a
>cut on there with Orion. I'm not sure when its coming out. But, it's going
>to sound nice.
>
>M. Villa: Who makes up the Shape Shifters?
>AWOL One: The Shade Shifters are: Mek, Circus, Rob 1, myself, Bleek, Exist,
>Akuma (Static,) Life, Direct, Mek, Radioinactive (Kamal,) and Shuma Shuma
>Sorath.
>
>M. Villa: I've noticed that you have worked on a few projects that have
>been released in the last couple months from the DJ Drez track "Dr Ez's
>Cool Fantastic" and on OMD's "Beneath The Surface" record. Is there
>anything else out there right now that you're involved with?
>AWOL One: Look for a CD ROM from "Rocket Ship." It has a song I did with
>Mike Nardone. It's called "Smile Of A Bruise."
>
>M. Villa: Any future plans for the Shape Shifters?
>AWOL One: We have a record coming out in 2 weeks. It sounds like two dogs
>eating out a dead cat. Just kidding.
>
>M. Villa: How did you and DJ Drez meet?
>AWOL One: I met Drez (Dr.Ez) because I would always see him at L.A. clubs.
>And, he used to always DJ at "Koo's Art." So, we ended up hooking up at a
>record store he used to work at.
>
>M. Villa: I know that a lot of underground emcees read a lot. What is some
>literature that you do read?
>AWOL One: The last thing I read was a comic book porno.
>
>M. Villa: Do you attend college?
>AWOL One: I was going to college and taking sound production for
>television. And, I was also taking computer graph. But, I'm taking a
>semester off cause sh*ts too hectic right now.
>
>M. Villa: What part of L.A. do you live at?
>AWOL One: I live in Whittier. It's actually L.A. County. But, I love this
>city. But, it's only a spec on this great earth.
>
>M. Villa: What city and state did you grow up at?
>AWOL One: I was born in Mentebello at Beverly Hospital. But, I lived all
>over from Norwalk, AZ. My dad was always fighting with his bosses and
>chanced jobs. But, always provided.
>
>M. Villa: What are some of the artists that you're listening to these days?
>AWOL One: Right now in my radio, I'm listening to Frank Zappa and some
>mixed tapes -- Rock the "Roack" Puppet, and E.S.P.
>
>M. Villa: What artists you want to work with when it comes to future
projects?
>AWOL One: I want to work with Biz Markie, serious just to meet the
diobolical.
>
>M. Villa: What should people expect from AWOL One in the future when it
>comes to a full length record or 12"?
>AWOL One: My new record is called AWOLRUS and features: Kool Keith, Volume
>10, Aceyalone, and Abstract Rude. It'll be out soon. It's produced by Mike
>Nardone. And, we did it at Kut Masta Kurts.
>
>M. Villa: Which artists probably influenced you the most when it came to
>writing your lyrics?
>AWOL One: My writing is influenced by the angels and devils arguing in my
>head. They won't shut up even though I try to drown em.
>
>M. Villa: Were you involved with the scene when you was going up?
>AWOL One: I was rhyming since I was around 14 or 15, but, I've been
>recording since I was around 16 or 17, making tapes and stuff, DJing and
>being a worthless kid, you know.
>
>M. Villa: Is there any last comments you would like to make before I wrap
>up this interview?
>AWOL One: Peace to you, the 3rd eyed Cowz, Mass Men, L.S.D, CBS, Shape
>Shifters, Hip Hop World Wide. To order a box of used toilet paper call:
>562-409-6213 and most of all love to my family!!!!
