I personally thought that this album was awful. I tend to spend around 30
pounds a week on vinyl, and this is the first thing in three years that I
have taken back because I didn't like it.
The breaks used are incredibly unoriginal, and have been used many times
before. I don't have a problem with that as such, but they make no attempt
to do anything new with them. Most of the songs reminded me of other tunes,
in a big way. It seems that they have got "being influenced by" confused
with "ripping off". One song is even called "bring the noise" (and involves
shouting 'bring the noise' over the backing track).
I was very disappointed, as I thought that b-boy stance was a good track,
but the rest of the album was just arse.
I'd listen to it first, or buy it from a shop that won't mind you bringing
it back. I changed it for the first Wiseguys album, which I just never
seemed to get around to buying when it came out. Now, this is an excellent
lp, with lots of originality. I'm not too sure what the second album will
be like, as the wiseguys are no longer a twosome, and the two new singles,
well, I haven't been impressed. I know this is a bit harsh, but if they
were Fatboy Slim tracks, then they'd be fine, 'cos he says that he likes
making records that get the girls dancing! But because of the Wiseguys
previous work, they come across as too formulaic. Saying that, the b-sides
are cracking. I'd actually recommend buying the singles, but playing the
b-sides.
