This is for all the Brazilian music lovers out there.
For a great "state of the art" on Brazilian pop, I highly
recommend a new compilation called BRASIL 2 MIL, out now
on Six Degrees Records. Licensed from the new Ziriguiboom
offshoot of SSR/Crammed Discs (the same folks who gave us
BOSSA CUCA NOVA), this comp has tracks from many of the
most important contemporary artists. Here's the tracklisting:
Bebel Gilberto - Sem Contencao (prod. by Arling & Cameron!)
Lenine - O Dia Em Que Faremos Contato
Arto Lindsay - Ridiculously Deep
Zuco 103 - Outro Lado
Smoke City - Numbers
Arnaldo Antunes (w/Marisa Monte) - Alta Noite
Daude - Objeto Nao Identificado
Suba - Voce Gosta
Virginia Rodriguez - Negrume Da Noite
Vinicius Cantuaria - Sem Pisar No Chao
Andrea Marquee - Carmesim
Chico Science & Nacao Zumbi - Amor De Muito (Mario C Mix)
Fernanda Abreu - Voce Pra Mim (Remix)
Arakatuba - Josimar (Fila Brazillia Mix)
If you haven't heard many of these artists, this is a fine
place to start! And unlike a lot of the other comps out there
that are more dance-oriented, this is an album of SONGS. Good ones.
