I was trying to stay out of this given the last thread, but any one out
there really thinks UK (or European) rap sucks they don't know what they're
talking about. They may not be as good AS A WHOLE as the US, but that
doesn't change the fact that there are some excellent crews out there doing
hip-hop, both instrumental and with raps. Admittedly some of the raps are
hard for us Americans to dig, and some are downright lousy, but many can
flow very very well. For anyone who wants to broaden their horizons here's
some starting points (IMHO):
UK: Blackanized, Reachout, anything on Ronin, Aim and practically anything
else on Grand Central, some of the stuff on Son, Funky DL, Mark B and the
Jazz Fudge posse, DJ Bombjack, DJ Kuku, Harry Love and the whole Scratch
Perverts crew, Hombre's got some dope stuff out-check Numskulls or Hundred
Strong
Germany: DJ Peabird, Fettes Brottes, Five Star Deluxe (esp. the beats)
France: I Am, DJ Cutkiller and his whole crew
That's just off the top of my head, if I worked at it I could list a lot
more. The problem is in America you aren't going to get to hear most of this
as there are very few stores that stock it (and we're pretty much the only
importer that distributes it).

Brits suck at hiphop???!!! So Mark B and DJ Skitz' beats arent any good?
Blade isnt a good mc? Killer Kela isnt the closest thing to god when it
comes to beatboxing? the Scratch Perverts arent good dj's?
UK hiphop might not be as good as some of the stuff from the states, but
saying that they suck is ridiculous.

What do you mean white guys have given up on trying to rap? Who exactly are
you refering to? Markey Mark and Vanilla Ice? I really dont think they
count...
There are loads of *very* good white mc's in the states, but since they dont
live up to any of the hiphop stereotypes you dont see them on MTV .. you
hardly even see them in The Source or Rap Pages.
Eligh, Dose, Sole, Esoteric, Cage, The Grouch, El-P, Buck65, Pedestrian and
Necro are all very white and most definetly havent given up on hip hop, and
theres more where they came from...
