I was on Latin time again. I got there about 10:50
(it started at 10:30) and it was so packed there
wasnt' even standing room, so I left. The open mic
readers seemed like they were going to do some
interesting things. There was a crazy older lady in
black tights and rolled up plaid boxers with a set of
african bells of some sort, but I couldn't see or
hear. The crowd was beautiful and mixed and very
excited to be there.
They throw these things periodically, so I'll report
on the next one. Ms. Rucker seems to be about town
quite a lot.
My favorite thing of hers, possibly my favorite piece
of poetry that I've seen/heard in the past few years,
was her piece on The Roots "Things Fall Apart." If
you haven't heard it, please, *please* make an effort
to do so. I know I get excited about a lot of music,
but this one just goes out of the realm of...it...it's
the kind of thing that will put you in a tailspin for
days, and will leave you speechless for at least 2
minutes.
