"Groove Collective reflects New York's diverse palette in a way that
Seinfeld only hints at!" - Mercury News

In a scant few months Giant Step will be celebrating it¹s 10 year
anniversary, so it¹s a more then a simple pleasure to be presenting a
show with an act that started it¹s life at the legendary Giant Step club
night. New York City¹s GROOVE COLLECTIVE are a powerful live act who
combine live funk, hip-hop, jazz, Afro-Cuban, soul, dancers, DJs, tapers,
jazz-heads and club remixers. To them there are no more barriers and no
more forced separations between musical styles, cultures, or social
classes, because to them melodies & rhythms are a universal language
beyond words. Their new album "Declassified" (Shanchie) has them
transmitting future groove, Afro-house, infra-sonic trip hop, Latin dance
and much more They¹ve also just released a 12" for DJs on respected House
label Naked Music that features slammin' remixes by Jay Denes, Swag
Productions and Baby Mammoth (of Fila Brasilia), Original GC Keyboardist
Itaal Shur has also co-written the current number one hit by Carlos
Santana's "Smooth" and appeared on the new Giant Step 12" "Jingo" by
Kalawang. The Collective are also expanding their horizons with new
collaborations, having most recently recorded a track with Grammy-winning
Cuban jazz legend Chucho Valdez, opened for and jammed with James Brown,
toured with the Dave Matthews Band, played on MTV's Red Hot Gershwin
Groove special, and been featured on a live one hour BET special. They've
backed the likes of Tupac Shakur (voted #2 all time live Hip Hop
performance on MTV), Morcheeba, Pharcyde and Natalie Merchant, and have
shared stages with some of the biggest names in music, including Erykah
Badu, Isaac Hayes, The Roots, Guru, and Tito Puente. When asked to
describe themselves a band member responded "(we¹re) Part social
experiment, part musical experience; We've tried democracy, communism,
capitalism, dorian, chromatic, mescalydian, starvation diets, sleep
depravation, meditation, mediation, co-op, cooped up,
disco-ambient-futura-trance-jungle-drum and
bass-trip-hop-hip-acid-transistor-funk-rock-psychedelic-silicon-hard
bop-big beat-tube-electronic-live-dub-salsa-mambo combo with a twist...
and you know, I think it might be the next big thing!"

> Joining them for this show are
NYC's top underground DJs Nickodemus
and Sasha (Organic Grooves) plus
up and comers PRIMORDIAL SOURCE live.

To celebrate the end of the second season of Giant Step and silverTab¹s
MILES A HEAD series of events, we¹re pleased to announce a party that's
sure to get everyone¹s feet moving on the dance floor. House music was
created in America, and like Jazz at it¹s best it¹s still an American led
game. The two DJ / producers headlining this event are not merely great
party DJs and great producers. But they have both in their own ways
helped
create the genre of House music.

Roy Davis Jr, seldomly plays in NYC, even though he¹s in demand
worldwide.
Roy¹s first big break musically was when he became DJ Pierre¹s
replacement
in the pivotal Acid-House unit PHUTURE. Then he started recording his own
singles for labels like Strictly Rhythm, Force Inc, Big Big Trax, Power
Music, Jack Trax and more. His early work during this period was well
received worldwide, but in the last few years Roy¹s music has really
matured and come into it¹s own. His new label Undaground Therapy has seen
Roy release a new body of work that reflects a deeper more soulful, less
bangin¹ aesthetic than those early club rockin¹ Phuture tracks. Not that
the new tracks aren¹t rockin¹ the floors they are and big time too.
1998¹s ŒGabrielle" was a huge hit even getting picked up by The
Prodigy¹s
UK label for chart action! Other recent classics from Roy include his
collaboration with Peven Everett "Men From The Nile" and a host of
singles for label¹s like Daft Punk¹s Roule imprint, Peacefrog, Large,
Nuphonic and NRK. His most recent album releases include a mix CD for
Brooklyn Music, an album for Peacefrog UK that Jockey Slut UK cited as
being "in keeping with the traditions of Chicago house, it¹s a straight
to the point noodle-free experience" and much more is planned / on the
way.

Ron Trent also emerged from the Chicago house scene, before Roy was in
cutting up the floor with Future, Ron released his first 12" that was to
become one most revered cuts in house music. Created before he was 20
"Altered States" remains to this day as an all time classic of the genre.
Since then Ron has consistently produced 12" releases that have captured
dance floors, dancers and DJs worldwide. He ran the amazing Prescription
label for with then-partner Chez Damier. Started the Clairaudience label
and then this year stepped things up considerably by solidly releasing
new tunes on Prescription Worldwide, doing remixes for the likes of Gus
Gus, Anastasia, Shazz and more. He also released not one, but two albums
- the minimal "Primitive Arts " on Prescription as Ron Trent and the
tribal infused deepness of "AFRICAN BLUES: Color In Rhythm" as USG with
Anthony Nicholson. He also recently released a new cover version of the
classic Santana / Candido / Olatunji tune "Jingo" as Kalawang on Giant
Step records.

Both of these guys are unsung heroes of American music. We¹re excited to
end the MILES A HEAD Series (which has featured mind-blowing and SOLD-OUT
shows by :
Massive Attack, Fabio and Grooverider, Air, Planet V, Terry Callier,
Fatboy Slim, Kruder and Dorfmeister, LTJ Bukem, Reich Remixed Live!, Faze
Video Festival, Macy Gray, Tom Ze, Mushroom Jazz, Innerzone Orchestra,
Breakbeat Era, Zap Mama, Jazzanova / David Alvarado) by bringin¹ these
talented men some of the long-overdue attention they deserve. We¹ll also
be giving away some goodies from Levi¹s and have a special Miles A Head
graphic display / poster exhibition.
Come celebrate, dance and party hard at this pre-xmas end of year blow
out bash!

STAY TUNED FOR MILES A HEAD 2000 !
